The Challenge A global bank, with more than 300,000 staff across 50+ countries, operates a Sydney branch delivering critical applications to hundreds of users every day. Trading, customer service, compliance, payments: all of it ran through a single virtual desktop environment at one site. If that site went down (fire, flood, hardware failure, anything) staff would lose access to every business system at once. For a bank, that is not an inconvenience. It is a regulatory event.
There was no disaster recovery. The branch needed one, designed, built, tested, and proven, that could fail over to a second site cleanly, with the speed and reliability a tier-one bank demands.
The Solution Extranet Systems designed and delivered a fully independent disaster recovery site. New high-performance hardware was installed at the secondary location, configured to mirror the production environment in active-standby. Critical systems were replicated in near real-time, so the data at the DR site was always current. The entire environment was then tested under failover conditions, not just configured and left alone, but proven to actually take over when called upon.
When the main site is unavailable, staff log in and keep working. No scramble. No improvisation. The systems that run the bank just keep running.
